How do you measure a dog for clothes?
Five minutes and a soft tape is all it takes. Measure the neck, chest, tummy and back length with your dog standing, then find the row in our chart where the neck and chest both fit. Weight is only a rough guide. Two dogs at the same weight can need different sizes, so go by the numbers.
Where should you measure neck, chest and back length?
Measure the neck where a collar naturally sits, the chest around the widest part of the ribcage just behind the front legs, the tummy just in front of the back legs, and the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Keep the tape snug but not tight, and write everything down in inches.
- Neck: around the base, where a collar sits.
- Chest: the widest part, just behind the front legs.
- Tummy: around the belly, just in front of the back legs.
- Back length: from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
How do you measure your dog, step by step?
Pick a calm moment, ideally after a walk, and stand your dog on a flat floor. Measure the neck, then the chest, then the tummy, then the back length, keeping the tape flat against the coat without pressing it down. Do each one twice. If the two numbers differ, use the bigger one.
Two people help. One holds the treats and keeps your dog standing still, the other does the tape. It goes much faster, and your dog thinks it is a game.
No measuring tape at home?
Use a piece of string, a ribbon or a phone charger cable. Wrap it around your dog, pinch the spot where it meets, then lay it flat along a ruler or steel scale. If your ruler is in centimetres, divide by 2.54 to get inches for our chart.
What are the Furrybae size measurements?
Every size from S to XXL, in inches: upper and lower length, neck, chest and tummy girth, plus the weight band each size usually suits. Measure your pet, find the row where the neck and chest both fit comfortably, and order that size.

Measure, don’t guess. Weight gets you to the right part of the chart. The neck and chest numbers pick the size.
What do upper and lower length mean?
Upper length is the garment’s length along the back, from the collar to the hem. Lower length is the shorter underside, from the front of the chest to the belly hem. It is cut shorter on purpose, so the shirt stays clear when your dog goes to the toilet.
What if my pet falls between two sizes?
Go up, not down. A garment that is slightly roomy still lets your pet move, sit and toilet normally. One that is slightly tight rubs at the neck and armholes, and most pets will tell you about it within minutes. Check the chest first, since that is usually the measurement that decides.
My dog weighs 10 to 15 kg. Which size?
That sits between our Medium band (5 to 10 kg) and our Large band (15 to 25 kg), so let the chest decide. If your dog’s chest is 22 inches or less, Medium fits. If it is more than 22 inches, go for Large.
What size should a cat wear?
Most cat owners take the Small, since that is where our sizes start. Measure the neck and chest the same way you would for a dog and compare them with the Small row. Keep the first wear short and stay close while your cat gets used to it.
How do I size the bathrobe?
The bathrobe has its own sizes, XS to 3XL. Measure the chest at its widest point and the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, with your dog standing. Both buckles adjust, so if your dog sits between two sizes, go one up.
How should it fit once it’s on?
You should be able to slide two fingers under the neck and chest, and your dog should walk, sit, lie down and toilet normally. If anything pulls at the neck or armholes, or your dog freezes or keeps trying to back out, try the next size up.
